NILS LAGERGREN ART
“...which seemed to hover in a limbo between creation and decay...” (Thomas Mann)
"The concept of time in its infinite variations characterizes the artistic research of Nils Lagergren, a contemporary Swedish artist. His works are the result of a profound reflection on the action that this exerts on our lives, aging us and transforming the things we are surrounded by. Working mainly with papercut techniques and mixed media sculptures, the artist investigates this theme not only by letting his works interact directly with time, but also with collages, where this concept takes on a more philosophical value."

In my art project "Ghost fleet" I build miniature ships of material I find around me, like old soda cans, thrown away pieces of plastic, wood and scrap metal. I construct these vessels so they actually float - but then I sink them, thus enlisting Nature itself as my co-artist. The art process takes 2-4 years and when the vessel has turned into a shipwreck I salvage it to give it new life as an art object - a Ghost Fleet Sculpture.
In my "Paperworld" art project I use old fashioned layer-on-layer paper collage techniques to create images that sometimes borders to 2.5D and visually draws inspiration from vintage travel posters, architecture and children book illustrations from the past.
SCÔZ am RHEIN
The illustrious Central European city of Scôz am Rhein has been a passion of mine since the late 1980's, a passion that through the years has spawned maps, images, books and websites.
